8:45                 Wireless: Do the Risks Outweigh the Benefits

A lot has recently been written about wireless vulnerabilities and just as                        much about the many benefits of mobile enterprise solutions and the                        promises of mobile commerce. This panel aims at understanding where                        we are today in addressing mobile and wireless vulnerabilities. Ultimately,                        can we effectively harness these technologies without exposing ourselves                        to unacceptable risks? What are the most promising solutions today?                        What are the issues that will require further work?

Moderator: Rajeev Chand, Rutberg & Company
                       Panelists include:
                       Dr. Tom Karygiannis, NIST

Aaron Vance, Industry Analyst, Synergy Research Group
                       Oliver Tavakoli, CTO, Funk Software

10:15               Can Security and Dependability be seamlessly provided across

                     a patchwork of wireless standards

Today’s mobile and wireless landscape comprises a patchwork of                        ill-integrated technologies. Yet, a premise of mobility is that users should                        be able to seamlessly roam across networks operated by different                        providers. 3G standards have been touting the prospect of a “virtual home                        environment” that would present users with a consistent and dependable                        experience independently of the network they connect through. With the                        growing popularity of WLAN technologies, a number of companies have                        announced plans to provide for seamless and secure roaming between                        WLAN and wide area cellular networks. How far are we from this vision                        today and what are the implications for both developers and end-users?

Moderator: Dr. Tom Karygiannis, NIST
                       Panelists include:

                       Jeff Payne, CEO, Cigital
Jack Hong, Technical Manager Architect, Office of the CTO, Avaya

12:30
               Introduction to Keynote Speaker

Dr. William Scherlis, Co-Founder, SCC

12:45pm          Keynote: Privacy, trust and interoperability in a mobile environment

James J. Halpert, Partner, Piper Rudnick
James has helped negotiate and draft many of the US laws that apportion                        liability on the Internet,
including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the                        Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, Communications Decency Act,                        the Protection of Children from Sexual Predators Act, and the Internet                        False Identification Act of 2000.

1:15                 Interoperability challenges in context-awareness

Mobile Internet access is about overcoming the limitations of mobile                        devices and the time critical requirements associated with a variety of                        mobile usage scenarios. A key element in this regard involves leveraging                        information about the context within which a user operates (e.g. her                        location, her current task or goal, who she is with, what the weather is                        like, who her colleagues are, etc.). This trend today is best exemplified by                        the emergence of location-based services and location tracking                        functionality. It will expand over time to encompass an ever broader range                        of contextual attributes. While a lot of contextual information is already                        available today (e.g. location information, calendar information, buddy                        lists, organizational databases, etc.) most of it is represented in an ad                        hoc fashion and is nearly impossible to access. The objective of this panel                        is to identify where we are today in supporting context awareness. What                        are the benefits and limitations of today’s solutions and where are we in                        providing for the necessary interoperability (e.g. Location Interoperability                        Forum/Open Mobile Alliance, e-wallet solutions, 3GPP virtual home                        environment, Semantic Web, etc.).

                      Presentations from:

Dr. Norman Sadeh, Carnegie Mellon University
Jonathan Agre, Director, Fujitsu Research Labs.

2:30                Trust in context-aware environments

The emergence of context aware environment is also raising increasingly                        complex privacy and security challenges. The objective of this panel is to                        gain a deeper understanding of the mobile, context-aware scenarios that                        are likely to emerge over time. What are their benefits? How quickly will                        they become reality? Can the privacy issues they raise be addressed with                        today’s technologies (e.g. P3P) and how about related policy issues they                        might raise? In short how do we provide for trust and security in current                        and future context-aware environments?
